Founder's Story
It was a bright sunny day; a bit of chillness was still there in the morning air, an unlikely March. As a pre-med student at Cornell University, I thought about how equally unlikely it was that I was sitting in this chair. I was born and raised in rural Ghana and lived there until the age of 19. While I was elated about my career path and prospects, I also felt guilt, commonality, and kinship with those I'd left behind. Parts of my family, friends, and community have zero access to health care and won't seek it unless the circumstances are life and death. I knew that I had to do something and thus began my journey.
My passion for helping drove me into action. Initially, I authored and won a grant with the sole aim of raising awareness of hypertension. Several physicians in Ghana confirmed that hypertension accounted for 60% of the outpatient cases they treat daily. In December 2017, we embarked on our first outreach, partnering with several physicians and medical students to educate, screen, and treat 250 underserved Ghanaians.
I have been going back every year, sometimes twice a year, using my salary, savings, and retirement- which only goes so far. Over the years, we have transformed the lives of over 1000 individuals in 5 different communities by providing them with a complete health assessment and life-saving medications. Yet every trip delayed results in lives lost; This is what keeps me awake at night. Our trips don't help nearly enough. These mobile hospitals eliminate the need for these long journeys and bring the healthcare to my people.
It is my sincere hope that you'll join me in this journey. Any donation will be enormously helpful. My vision isn't 'just one' roaming hospital, but many multiples of one! Thank you for your time and interest!
